T&R Protecting Hands

As part of COVID-19 prevention, face coverings now need to be worn in most indoor places, outside the home. [DoH, 2020] They cover the nose and mouth, which are the main ways COVID-19 is spread. Moreover, we know that people are washing their hands more frequently, as Government Advice emphasized this is imperative to help stop the spread of infection.

Here at Thornton & Ross (T&R) we know the damaging effects that mask-wearing and extensive handwashing can have on the skin, from facial rashes, acne breakouts (labelled as maskne) or dry hands caused by hand gels and or harsh soaps. This can be worse if you already have an underlying skin condition such as eczema or psoriasis.

This is why our two leading emollient brands Zeroderma® and Cetraben® have put together a series of useful resources to help yourself, your business or your patients alleviate dry skin conditions.

Dry skin conditions are common and it’s recommended that ‘emollients should be the first-line therapy for all dry skin conditions.’ But ‘not all emollients are the same.’ [Moncrieff, 2013]

A range of products are needed from light to greasy, and some with added ingredients like humectants or oatmeal. The Zeroderma® and Cetraben® product ranges offer a wide choice of emollients including ointments, gels, lotions and creams - all approved by the British Skin Foundation.
